SAPPHIRE How To: Change or Clean a Quick Connect FanHARDWARE
We bring you a new series of tutorial videos and articles about SAPPHIRE products! It’s a perfect place to start if you’re new to building computers or need some specific information about taking care of your GPU.
In the first part of the SAPPHIRE How To series, you’re going to find out step-by-step how to remove and then reinstall the Quick Connect fans in your graphics card. It’s a good skill to have if at some point you need to clean your fans or replace them. SAPPHIRE’s Quick Connect system featured in Pulse and Nitro+ cards makes the whole process a lot easier.
First, you’ll need to gain access to the graphics card, which you can’t do safely with your PC turned on. Shut down the computer and turn off the power supply switch, usually located on the back of the case. Then, disconnect all the cables so you can freely maneuver the case and remove the side panel.
Next, you should lay the case flat for easy access to your graphics card. Disconnect the power connectors from the GPU and undo the screws that hold the video card in place (you may need a larger Phillips screwdriver to do this).
To remove your GPU from the motherboard, push and hold the retention clip located at the end of the PCI-E slot and carefully pull out the card. You may want to take this opportunity to clean it with compressed air.
The next step is to lay the card flat, preferably on an anti-static surface, with the fans facing upward. Grab a small Phillips head screwdriver and undo the Quick Connect screw located on the fan. Now you can easily remove the fan by pulling it up.
If you only need to clean the fans, we recommend using a small brush or microfiber cloth. To replace them completely, take the new fans out of the box and lower them onto the connection pins at a slight angle, push them down and secure with the screws.
Now you only need to put the card back in your PC case. Slide it into the PCI-E slot and carefully press it down until it’s locked in place, then use the larger screwdriver to secure it. Reattach the side panel, reconnect all the cables and turn on the power supply unit.
And that’s it! You can now safely turn on the PC and enjoy your favorite games while the Quick Connect fans keep your GPU in optimal temperature. RX 500 and RX Vega video cards from the Pulse and Nitro+ series all feature the Quick Connect solution, which simplifies fan maintenance and makes the whole experience a lot simpler.
